The Central Government has rolled out a new FASTag annual toll pass, priced at ₹3,000, specifically designed for non-commercial vehicle users on India’s national highways and expressways. This initiative aims to simplify toll payments by eliminating the need for frequent FASTag recharges.

Eligibility and Benefits
The new annual pass is applicable to cars, jeeps, and vans, and other non-commercial vehicles. It is not valid for commercial vehicles.
• Coverage: For a single payment of ₹3,000, vehicle owners can travel on national highways for one year or up to 200 trips, whichever comes first.
• Reactivation: Once the 200 trips are completed, the pass can be reactivated again for ₹3,000. This can be done multiple times within the year.
• Existing FASTags: Owners with an existing FASTag do not need to purchase a new one; the annual pass can be activated using their current FASTag.
• Significant Savings: The pass is projected to provide an average annual saving of ₹7,000 for vehicle owners. For example, if a vehicle typically pays ₹50 per tollgate, 200 trips would cost ₹10,000. With the annual pass, this cost reduces to ₹3,000, saving ₹7,000.

Understanding a “Trip”
A “trip” is defined as the passage through each individual tollgate. For instance, a journey from Hyderabad to Vijayawada, which involves crossing four tollgates, would count as four trips. A return journey would add another four, totalling eight trips for the round trip.

FASTag Annual Pass Activation Process
The new annual pass can be activated through a dedicated link made available by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (morth) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
Steps for Activation:
1. Download the Rajmarg Yatra App: Available for both Android and iOS users via the Play Store or Apple App Store. The activation link is also accessible on the NHAI and morth websites.
2. Log In: Enter your mobile number, vehicle number, and FASTag details to log in.
3. Make Payment: Complete the payment of ₹3,000 through the provided payment gateway.
4. Activation Confirmation: The pass will be activated within two hours of payment, and an SMS confirmation will be sent to your mobile number.

Flexibility for Users
While beneficial, opting for the annual pass is not mandatory. Vehicle owners who make fewer trips or prefer not to pay the ₹3,000 upfront can continue to use the existing FASTag system and pay toll fees per gate as they currently do.
